The Vatican already has a theme for the fifth
World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly: “Happy is he who does not see his hope fade away.” It will be celebrated on July 27.

Pope Francis has always shown his affection for grandparents and has even spoken of his own on several occasions. For example, he explained how he received the faith.

POPE FRANCIS
I, too, received it from my grandmother, from whom I first learned about Jesus, who loves us, who never leaves us alone, and who urges us also to be close to one another and never to exclude anyone. I still remember the first prayers my grandmother taught me.

The World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly was instituted by Pope Francis in 2021. The objective is to reflect on the importance of the presence of grandparents and the elderly as hope in the family.

POPE FRANCIS
I think of grandparents: how beautiful these lush trees are, under which children and grandchildren make their own “nests,” learn the climate of home and experience the tenderness of a hug. It is about growing together: the verdant tree and the little ones who need the nest, the grandparents with the children and grandchildren, the elders with the younger ones. Brothers and sisters, we need a new alliance between young and old.

The elderly will also have their Jubilee. It will take place from May 30 to July 1, in which families will also participate.
