On the occasion of the Jubilee, the Vatican has strengthened its security system and increased the sanctions and fines for those who violate it.

The decree issued by Cardinal Fernando Vérgez, the head of the Vatican City State, establishes penal and administrative sanctions for those who violate its provisions.

For example, entering its territory with violence can lead to up to four years in prison and a fine of €25,000.

Those who fly drones over the Vatican also risk prison sentences of up to three years.

In recent years, there have been a number of incidents that have upset the Vatican security services. In May 2023, for example, a person forced his way into the Vatican with his car, bypassing the Swiss Guard and Italian law enforcement checkpoints.
One of the most serious incidents occurred in 2009, when a woman attacked Pope Benedict XVI during Christmas Eve Mass.
