The mass of Our Lady of Guadalupe brought with it a special atmosphere in the Vatican.
The songs, readings and homily were in Spanish. The first Latin American pope in history also improvised a short sermon to warn that the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe should not be manipulated. He asked, above all, to pay attention to the motherhood of the Virgin, who treats the Indian Juan Diego as her son.

Everything that is said about the mystery of Guadalupe beyond this is a lie. It is a desire to use it for ideologies. The Guadalupan mystery is to venerate her and to hear ‘Am I not here, who am your mother?’ And to listen to this in the moments of life, in the various difficult moments of life, the happy moments of life, the daily moments of life: ‘Do not be afraid, am I not here, who am your mother? And this is the whole message of Guadalupe. The rest is ideology.
Mexico was very much present during this celebration. Additionally, this year for Christmas Mexico was assigned to produce the nativity scene in St. Peter's Basilica.
