On November 22, the Irish theologian O'Regan and the Japanese sculptor Etsurō Sotoo will be awarded the Ratzinger Prize 2024. A recognition that highlights their progress both in the field of theology and religious art.
This year is the second time these awards have been held in the absence of Pope Benedict XVI.
POPE FRANCIS
A theologian who knew how to open and nourish his own reflections and cultural dialogue jointly in many directions, because faith and the Church live in our world and are allies towards the search for the truth. I am talking about Joseph Ratzinger.”
O'Regan is Professor of Theology at the University of Notre Dame in the United States. He is known for his studies on Systematic Theology and the history of Christianity, in addition to his analysis of the work of Joseph Ratzinger. On the other hand, Etsurō Sotoo is famous for his sculptural work in the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. He will be the first Asian sculptor to receive this prestigious award.
The award ceremony will be held in the Sala Regia of the Apostolic Palace and will be presided over by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, while the award will be presented by Father Federico Lombardi, president of the Joseph Ratzinger-Benedict XVI Vatican Foundation.
