JUBILEE: Trevi Fountain to limit access in the coming months

The Italian authorities decided to make an experiment: they will place a footbridge in the Trevi Fountain. This will allow tourists to walk over the fountain and look closely at the sculptures.

In this way, the Italian authorities will limit access and better control the enormous flow of tourists who visit the fountain every day. In fact, it will no longer be possible to freely go down to the foot of the fountain.

However, it is not safety that has forced the placement of the footbridge, but rather restoration. Taking advantage of the funds that the European Union made available to its members because of the pandemic, Rome made a special plan to restore many of its monuments and streets, especially in view of the Jubilee.

The restoration work on the Trevi Fountain will last three months and everything should be ready before Christmas Eve, when Pope Francis will open the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica. The walkway will be ready within a month and it is possible that there will be an entrance fee in the final phase of the process.

When the restoration is finished, it is possible that the authorities will force you to pay if you want to descend to the foot of the fountain.
