This is one of the cars used by the NGO, World Central Kitchen. It was bombed shortly after the team unloaded 100 tons of humanitarian aid in a demilitarized zone in Gaza.

In a statement, the NGO said that “this is an attack on humanitarian organizations showing up in the most dire of situations where food is being used as a weapon of war.”

The attack killed a humanitarian team consisting of people from the UK, Poland, Australia, a U.S.-Canadian citizen and three Palestinians.

The Israeli Defense Forces sent a message expressing their condolences for their deaths. They will conduct an investigation both internally and with an independent body.

DANIEL HAGARI
Spokesperson, Israeli Defense Forces

We are commited to examining our opperations thuroughly and trasparently. I just spoke to WCK founder, chef José Andrés and expressed the deepest condolences of Israel Defense Forces to their families.

A few days before the attack, in his Urbi et Orbi blessing, Pope Francis reiterated his call for humanitarian aid to be able to reach the Gaza Strip.

POPE FRANCIS
Additionally, I again appeal for guaranteed access for humanitarian aid to Gaza, urging again for the prompt release of the hostages abducted on Oct. 7 and an immediate cease-fire in the Strip.

Since the beginning of the war, Pope Francis has dedicated many of his public appearances to asking that the civilian population not be punished as a result of the conflicts.
