Pope Francis presided over the inauguration of the 95th judicial year of the Vatican Tribunal—the highest court in the Vatican's legal system. But the Pope did not read his speech.

I have prepared a speech but, as you can see, I am unable to read it due to bronchitis.
In his address, read by Monsignor Ciampanelli, the Pope called for courage for those who administer justice in the Church. Pope Francis stressed that this courage “disorients the corrupt and pushes them into a corner,” since it is needed to overcome external influences.

Let us think of the victims of war or of those who are subjected to continual violations of human rights, such as the many persecuted Christians. In the face of these injustices, the Spirit gives us the strength not to surrender and stirs indignation and courage within us.
Among those present was the Vatican's promoter of justice, Alessandro Diddi. In his message to the Pope, he recalled that “last year important trials were held.” In 2023, after more than 80 hearings, the case against Cardinal Angelo Becciu concluded. For the first time, a cardinal was condemned in a Vatican court.
