Pope Francis met with a group of women who have left the mafia. They were accompanied by Fr. Luigi Ciotti, founder of the Libera Association that fights against corruption and organized crime.
During the meeting, the Pope applauded their courage.

You, dear ladies, were born and raised in contexts polluted by mafia crime, and you have decided to get out of it. I bless this choice of yours, and I encourage you to move forward.
The Pope emphasized that these women have faced moments of fear, since it is not easy to escape from the mafia. But he invited them to realize that Jesus walked beside them and that they were not alone.
