In a video conference hosted by Loyola University Chicago and the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, Pope Francis reminded university students that the intellectual ideas they learn at school must be accompanied with compassion when welcoming migrants.

The Pope explained that to truly receive and integrate migrants into a new country does not mean having them reject their roots. Rather it involves welcoming both the people and their heritage. He warned that rejecting one's roots kills society.

Pope Francis' conversation was part of a larger initiative called Building Bridges Across South Asia. It brings students together from that region to dialogue, reflect and share thoughts on their common social issues.
