On Sunday at 5 p.m., candles will be lit around the world as a sign of solidarity with the war-torn city of Aleppo. With the slogan, 'A Light for Aleppo, A Light for All,â? the mission is meant to give hope and support to the Syrian people, who are confronted with conflict, lack of security and starvation daily.
The event is organized by the University of Edinburgh and is simply asking four things from people: to light a candle in a window at 5 p.m. On November 20, to share the event with others, to create a lighthouse model drawing or painting and finally take a picture of it and post on social media with the hashtag, #ALightForAleppo.
Areas throughout Edinburgh will be illuminated, as communities gather along the Firth of Forth and other streets for this joint mission. There is also the option to organize other events around the globe, which many of them are listed on their Facebook page.
The University of Edinburgh is encouraging donations on their website, which will benefit charities such as Oxfam, Medicin Sans Frontieres, Society of the Red Cross, Red Crescent and Caritas Internationalis.
