During Palm Sunday Mass, Pope Francis spoke out on the refugee crisis in Europe. For the Pope, these people suffer the same indifference as Christ suffered.

POPE FRANCIS
'And I think of the many people, so many outcasts, so many asylum seekers, so many refugees, all of those for whose fate no one wishes to take responsibility.

This Sunday, an agreement between the European Union and Turkey came into full force with the agenda aimed at expelling all refugees arriving from now on to European shores.

These days, the Pope has been virtually the only world leader who has questioned this agreement. He spoke out several times against this directive that allows Europe to return thousands of asylum seekers to Turkey, while they await their fate in such unhealthy places like Idomeni in Greece.

It assumes the closure of borders of those fleeing war and violence in countries such as Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan and violates the spirit of international and EU laws regarding the right of asylum.

Europe had pledged to hold about 160,000 people. Only 937 of these refugees, who have had to rebuild their lives from scratch, have been helped.
