The general audience in St. Peter's Square was filled with people who know how to make others smile. Most notably, Pope Francis and the Argentinian comedian Carlitos Balá.
The Pope invited the performer to celebrate his 90th birthday in Rome, so the pair could meet.
CARLOS BALí
Comedian
'What a life, he said! With my first 90 years. FLASH. I am very happy, very excited, I always saw him in movies, documentaries. Now, I am living it. I still can't believe God has helped me to meet the Pope personally. It's beautiful.â?
With a career that spans 60 years of performance, Carlitos Balá is the symbol of many Argentinians' childhood. His legacy continues and his presence drew a lot of attention in St. Peter's Square.
'He's totally my childhood. With the chupetometro, and everything. We remember him fondly.â?
'I was very young when I would watch him. It's how old I am. I'm fifty something and I would watch him as child. He's a legend.â?
Carlos Balá did not travel alone. He came with his wife, and also with Jose Pellucchi who is the founder of the NGO Payamedicos, and singer Odino Faccia. The latter was in charge of creating an organization for peace.
ODINO FACCIA
Singer
'We send a message of peace for the world through different conferences, including concerts for peace, by sending a message through music as well.â?
Despite now being 90, Carlos Balá has joined the network of artists for peace. It's proof that no matter the age, one's spirit can remain young. Age is not an obstacle when it comes to dreaming big.
