This is how Pope Francis welcomed the president of Ecuador, Rafael Correa to the Vatican's Apostolic Palace.
They met to finalize the details of the Pope's upcoming trip to Ecuador from July 6th to the 8th.
'We feel great joy and gratitude. We're honored with your coming visit.â?
The president also took part in the Vatican's Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, titled 'Protect Earth, Dignify Humanity.' Also in attendance was the UN's Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon.
After their private conversation, the president introduced his delegation to the Pope.
'May I interject? He is not a man of faith, but he is one of the finest people I've ever known. He is extraordinary.â?
'Take care of your people, your country.â?
'Thank you. Your message helps us a lot.â?
As a gift, the president gave the Pope an image of Our Lady of Quito. The Pope gave him the medallion of St. Martin, which is the one he usually gives to presidents and heads of state.
As he said farewell, the Pope asked for his prayers.
'We will be waiting with a lot of joy, hope and gratitude.â?
'Pray for me.â?
