People lined up to confess during the penitential celebration on Friday in St. Peter's Basilica. Dozens stood by confessionals, waiting to receive the sacrament of reconciliation.
Many attendees, barely able to hold back tears, described their experience during the ceremony.
ROSA MARIA
'Well, it was very emotional to be here with the Pope receiving reconciliation and mercy.'
CLAUDIO
'It's wonderful because I had never ever had this opportunity to get right with God and be able to experience what I am now receiving here in Rome at the Basilica.'
The celebration also fell on the two-year anniversary of Pope Francis' pontificate. During the celebration, the Pope didn't forget to mention that God never grows tired of forgiving. At least one person will always remember the emotional speech. ;
ARANCHA ;
'It's an experience that not everyone can say they had. There have been very intense moments, people have experienced with a lot of intensity.'
As he did last year, the Pope went to confession and also heard confessions from several people. The gestures emphasized that the Holy Father takes mercy very seriously.
