Roughly 100 million people  in the world speak Farsi. Now, the Catechism of the Catholic Church can be read in that very language. It's a translation that took 12 years to complete, along with the input of about 1,000 experts.

MOHAMMED TAHER RABBANI
Ambassador of Iran to the Holy See
'This work, done by the University of Religions of Iran, will boost inter-religious dialogue, especially among monotheistic religions.

French Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, President of the Vatican's Council for Interreligious Dialogue, presented the book. He hopes this Catechism will improve the coexistence of religions in the Middle East.

CARD. JEAN-LOUIS TAURAN
President, Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue
'Non-Catholics can open the book and see for themselves what Christianity is in essence very powerful.â?

The Vatican hopes that the new publication will become a firsthand source of Catholicism in the region. Persian is spoken mainly in Iran and neighboring countries like Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.
