The Pope is planning on traveling to the Italian city of Turin, in June 2015. He made the announcement during his weekly general audience.
POPE FRANCIS
'I'm happy to announce that, God willing, on June 21st of next year, I will go on a pilgrimage to Turin, to venerate the Holy Shroud and to honor St. John Bosco, in the 200th anniversary since his birth.â?
From April 19th to June 24th of next year, the Holy Shroud will be on display as part of an exhibit. According to tradition, the cloth was wrapped around the body of Jesus, after He was crucified. The last time it was shown in public was back in 2010, when Benedict XVI prayed before the Shroud. For years now, it has triggered world wide intrigue.
ARCH. CESARE NOSIGLIA
Archbishop of Turin
'Everyone who goes before the Shroud, to pray or to see that facial profile and that tortured body, are moved by it.â?
For months now, the Diocese of Turin has been getting ready for the big day, since hundreds of thousands of pilgrims are expected to visit the exhibit and also to pay their respects to the founder of the Salesians, St. John Bosco. The exhibit will focus on the youth and the sick.
ARCH. CESARE NOSIGLIA
Archbishop of Turin
'We want the attention to be on young people, because the event marks 200 years since the birth of Don Bosco. We also want to shed light on the poor, the sick, and the disabled who directly suffer in their own bodies. They carry the wounds in their flesh, as signs of the Lord's Passion.â?
In Turin, Pope Francis will meet with Italian youths, which will be similar to the meetings he held during World Youth Day.
