Mexico's president, Enrique Peña Nieto met with Pope Francis at the Vatican.
'It's a pleasure.â?
For about 25 minutes, they talked behind closed doors, discussing everything from Mexico's religious liberty laws, to immigration, poverty, violence and drug trafficking.
The President says he invited him to visit Mexico, and he says, the Pope accepted.
In addition to Mexican authorities, the president's wife accompanied him to the meeting, as well as their three children and other family members.
As a gift, he gave the Pope a sculpture of the patroness of the Americas, Our Lady of Guadalupe and in light of the World Cup, he also gave him a soccer jersey signed by Mexico's team.
'You have to play fair with everyone. Here's a Mexican soccer jersey signed by all the players. It's simple, but it shows that Mexico loves you and respects you.â?
In exchange, Pope Francis gave him a medallion and a copy of his apostolic exhortation, titled Evangelii Gaudium, which also has references to social issues.
He then introduced some of the reporters who are covering his European tour. Before leaving, he touched on some of the topics they discussed, although it wasn't exactly clear which one he was referring to.
