Italian Cardinal Marco Ce passed away on Monday, May 12, in Venice. He was 88 years old.
Cardinal Ce was born in Izano, in northern Italy, in 1925. He was ordained a priest in 1948, and John Paul II created him cardinal in June 1979.
Since then and until 2002, Cardinal Ce served as the Patriarch of Venice, developing his pastoral work in that city.
The only conclave the cardinal voted in, was in 2005, for the election of Benedict XVI. For the 2013 conclave, he was over the age of 80, and did not vote. With his death, the overall number of cardinals decreases to 215, but the papal electors remain at 119. ;
