Before beginning the General Audience, Pope Francis made the rounds in St. Peter's Square in the popemobile, blessing many children along the way.
In his catechesis, he remembered the earthquake Mexico experienced and said that today he is spiritually close to all the people from this country.

“Let us all together lift our prayer to God so that He may welcome into His bosom those who have lost their lives and He may comfort the wounded, their families and all those affected. Let us also pray for all the service and relief personnel who are assisting all those affected. May our Mother, Our Lady of Guadalupe, with much tenderness, be close to the beloved Mexican nation.'
As part of his weekly catechesis, the pope delivered an emotional speech, with tips for living a life of hope.

'Cultivate ideals and be faithful to them. If you mess up, do not hesitate to get up again, for we are not infallible, and the Son of God has come to rescue us all. Live, love, believe, dream. God is your friend, and with His grace, one never falls into despair. '
The Roman wind played a joke on Pope Francis during the meeting. Halfway through his speech, his skullcap was blown off and could not be retrieved until the end of the encounter.
