Pope Francis wrote a handwritten letter about the crisis of abuse to all Chileans and its contents will be announced soon. The main precedent of this gesture goes back to the year 2010, when Benedict XVI wrote to the Irish after a similar crisis in the country.

In addition, Pope Francis is going to send his former prosecutor for cases of abuse, Charles Scicluna and his collaborator Jordi Bertomeu to Chile, to advance the process of reparation and healing of victims of abuse.

The two were in the country in February, gathering information from the victims and the bishops. This time they will travel to the diocese of Osorno, where a group of faithful have rebelled against the appointment of Juan Barros as bishop. Several victims of abuses by priest Fernando Karadima accuse Juan Barros of knowing about the abuses and not denouncing the priest.

Also, this weekend, the Holy Father will host a group of Chilean priests victims of Fernando Karadima in Casa Santa Marta. Two other priests who helped them 'in their legal and spiritual journey' will also be in attendance.
