At the conclusion of the Angelus, Pope Francis remembered the victims of the recent shootings in the United States.

POPE FRANCIS
“I am spiritually close to the victims of the violent attacks that led to bloodshed of defenseless people in Texas, California and Ohio in the United States. I invite you to join me in praying for those who have lost their lives, the wounded and their families.”

After a few moments of silence, he prayed the Hail Mary.

Earlier the pope spoke about the greed for material goods.

POPE FRANCIS
“Material goods are necessary. They are good. However, they are a means to live honestly and to share with those most in need. Jesus today invites us to consider that riches can chain the heart and distract it from the true treasure that is in Heaven.”

For this reason, Pope Francis also warned of how easy it is to fall into the temptation of wanting to have more and more.

POPE FRANCIS
“The greed for goods, the desire for goods, does not satisfy the heart, but causes more hunger! Greed is like candy. You take one and say, 'Oh, that's good,' and then you want another and then another. Such is greed, it never satisfies.”

Finally, the pope invited people to be attentive and to really distinguish what satisfies the heart, choosing to live according to the style of the Gospel and not according to the style of the world.
