The University of Notre Dame, like many institutions of higher education in the United States and around the world, is shut down for the rest of the 2019-2020 school year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Part of the institute's response is to offer a number of online resources to promote Catholic education. One of these is called “Pillars of the Church .”

JOHN CAVADINI
Director, McGrath Institute for Church Life
“We had the idea of designing something which would be a tool for evangelization, that would present the Catholic faith in a way that was like a beautiful bell tone, or something like that: very clear, and yet very simple. Not simplistic, but very simple, and therefore, accessible.”

Along with these courses designed for a broad audience, the McGrath Institute is also providing more focused resources to help Catholic schools develop adequate educational programming in this time of crisis, when campuses are deserted and teachers have to adapt to virtual forms of instruction.

JOHN CAVADINI
Director, McGrath Institute for Church Life
“We'd like to help them in the delivery of very persuasive online instruction, online pedagogy, especially since everybody's home.”

CLARE KILBANE
Senior Learning Designer, McGrath Institute for Church Life
“It would be a beautiful thing if Catholic schools, families and the larger community emerged from this crisis more faith-filled, more connected to one another and closer to Christ and His Church, and that's what the McGrath Institute for Church Life hopes to do to support Catholic schools in the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The McGrath Institute's focus is not limited to education, but seeks to address the spiritual and material needs of families and students as this time of crisis develops.
