There are more than 3,000 water fountains just in Rome alone, so coming across one a typical drinking water fountain or like the locals call it “nasoni” (large noses) is very common. Despite having an abundance of public fountains and water stations, Italy leads Europe in the consumption of bottled water, and is third in the world.

For this reason, Acea, an Italian water and energy company, has partnered with local governments across Italy, to provide an innovative solution. The Waidy App not only allows you to locate all of the different types of fountains on a map but also promotes a plastic-free lifestyle in order to lessen the consumption of bottled water.

“The fact that in Rome there are more than three thousand fountains and water stations, it seemed fair to provide a simple tool, and the app is one of the simplest, especially the map that finds the nearest fountain to your home or your current location.”

With this new project, Acea encourages users to use public fountains and refill portable containers as much as they can by providing an interactive experience. The platform allows users to rate water stations and log their daily water intake and needs. It will also provide interactive challenges with other app users using a reward system.

'By entering your personal data, you can also have information that helps you track optimal hydration levels, based on certain physiological factors that each one of us has. Therefore, by entering your weight and height in the app, you can also log your daily water needs for a healthier lifestyle.'

In addition, the app allows you to detect any malfunctions of individual fountains, also giving the possibility to report any problems.
