During the General Audience, the pope helped understand the letter about St. Joseph he published this past Dec. 8.

The letter commemorates the 150th anniversary of St. Joseph being named the patron saint of the universal Church.

POPE FRANCIS
“I titled it, 'With a Father's Heart.' God entrusted to him His most precious treasures: Jesus and Mary, and he responded fully with faith, with courage, with tenderness, with a father's heart.”

In his catechesis, Pope Francis reflected on the prayer of petition. He said we mustn't be ashamed to ask God for things.

POPE FRANCIS
“Do not be ashamed to pray. 'Lord, I need this,' 'Lord, I am in difficulty,' 'Help me!' It is the cry, the cry of the heart to God who is the Father.”

The pope invited the faithful to take advantage of Advent to concretely help people in need.
