During the Angelus, the pope showed his concern about the US Capitol's attack by a crowd of protesters. Pope Francis said he had prayed especially for the victims.

POPE FRANCIS
I reiterate that violence is always self-destructive. Nothing is earned with violence, and so much is lost. I urge the government authorities and the entire population to maintain a deep sense of responsibility in order to calm spirits, promote national reconciliation, and protect the democratic values rooted in American society.

The pope also regretted not being able to baptize the children of Vatican staff in the Sistine Chapel, as pontiffs do every year. This tradition was canceled this year due to the pandemic.

POPE FRANCIS
However, in any case, I wish to assure my prayers for the children who were enrolled and for their parents, godfathers, and godmothers; and I extend it to all children who in this period receive Baptism, receive the Christian identity, receive the grace of forgiveness, of redemption. May God bless everyone!

Pope Francis concluded the Angelus by recalling that after Christmas, it is time to return to ordinary life. However, he said this return should not be negative because when things are done with love, the most ordinary can become extraordinary.
