The Pope highlighted “the example of Christian life and the exemplary holiness” of seven Blesseds, authorizing their canonization.

He did this at the first public consistory for the canonization of Blesseds since the pandemic began. There are four priests, two religious sisters and one lay person.

“Lazarus, called Devasahayam, layman, martyr

César De Bus

Luigi Maria Palazzolo

Giustino Maria Russolillo

Charles de Foucauld, diocesan priest

Maria Francesca di Gesù

Maria Domenica Mantovani.”

They are models of holiness from different charisms. Among them are French mystic Charles de Foucauld; Lazarus, known as Devasahayam, the first lay person from India to be beatified and recognized as a martyr; and Italian religious sister Maria Domenica Mantovani, who dedicated her life to serving the poor and orphans

During these consistories, it is usual to announce the date for the canonization ceremony. But this year, because of the pandemic, it has not yet been announced.
