Anna and Gino traveled to Rome from northern Italy with family friends and 11 children to see Pope Francis.

As luck would have it, their daughter Sofia was even able to touch him.

SOFIA
'I called the Pope, the Pope turned around and touched my head and shook my hand, it was...I don't know, it was beautiful. It's not something that happens every day'.

Her parents hope that it will be an experience that will stay with her for a long time.

GINO
'I hadn't seen (the Pope) that close in my 45 years, so to have our kids already touch the Pope is something special'.

The children said they were also entertained by a novelty act that performed in the Paul VI Audience Hall, to celebrate the first General Audience of the new year.

Yet the highlight of their trip will surely be getting to share a special moment with one of the world's most well-known figures.
