Pope Francis participated in the International Conference for Presidents and Speakers of Episcopal Commissions for the Laity. He warned of the danger of approaching faith as something theoretical.
POPE FRANCIS
I would like to emphasize that formation must be mission-oriented rather than solely theoretical because that will lead to ideologies. And that is terrible. That is a plague. Ideology in the Church is a plague.
The Pope invited the group not to keep God to themselves. He said that Jesus came into the world as a missionary and wants a missionary Church.
POPE FRANCIS
Today, the Church's drama is that Jesus keeps knocking on the door. But He knocks from the inside, asking us to let Him out. So many times, the Church becomes an imprisoned Church that does not let the Lord out.
The Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life promoted this international congress and the theme was: 'Pastors and lay faithful called to walk together.'
