Since the morning of April 27, the faithful have been able to visit St. Mary Major Basilica to pray where Pope Francis is buried.
It is a simple tomb, where the name “FRANCISCUS” is inscribed, located next to the chapel of the Salus Populi Romani—an icon the pope frequently visited whenever he came to Rome as a cardinal, and later before and after every apostolic journey.
Pope Francis now rests forever in St. Mary Major. On his tomb lies a white rose, which held special meaning for him: every time he received one, it was a sign that St. Thérèse of Lisieux had heard his prayers.
