At 8:00 p.m. on April 25, the casket containing the remains of Pope Francis was closed. The Camerlengo, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, presided over the rite.
Following established tradition, a document recounting the life and works of the deceased—signed by some of those present—was read aloud and placed inside a metal tube, which was then inserted into the casket.
The Pope’s face was covered with a white silk veil, and a pouch containing coins minted during his pontificate was also placed inside the casket.
His closest collaborators were present during the ceremony. The funeral is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26.
