Carmela Mancuso saw Pope Francis for the last time the day before he died, on Easter Sunday. She continued her tradition: bringing him yellow flowers.
CARMELA MANCUSO
I went up to the popemobile, brought these flowers, and hugged him. Then I said, “Many greetings and best wishes from all my friends, all my family, and from the whole world. Get well soon!” And he… I kissed his hands. Well, just like yesterday. Today he also gave me a Rosary. Last night he had given me another one. Today’s is red.
When Pope Francis left the hospital, he recognized her immediately. In fact, the only 12 words he spoke were for her.
POPE FRANCIS
Thanks everyone. And I see this lady with the yellow flowers. She's nice.
Now, Carmela also wanted to say goodbye to him and approached the Basilica, not forgetting, as always, her bouquet of yellow flowers.
