Since laying Pope Francis' casket in state, the faithful have lined up along the walls of the Basilica in order to say their final goodbyes to the Argentinian Pope.

Typically standing for several hours in order to pay their respects, some of the faithful recounted what they felt in the atmosphere of the St. Peter's Square while they waited.

I expected a lot of people, but I didn't expect the people to be so calm and with dignity and prayer. The people I saw were really grateful to be here.

Once inside the Basilica, the feeling of peace did not subside from the crowd. While many of the people visiting came from around the world with different religious beliefs, the feeling was that of silent gratitude to be able to say goodbye and honor Pope Francis' life.

The feeling was calm inside (the Basilica), it's peaceful. I feel honored to be here today, on such a momentous occasion. It was just a nice experience to be around everyone from different parts of the world and joining together in a moment of peace.

There was a sense of camaraderie within the long lines and crowds, with many people remembering moments of simple generosity and charity, especially when the heat and long queues became physically difficult.

There were beautiful moments. Like when somebody was almost fainted and so many people helped - the service was amazing and they were there in no time… total strangers giving each other water and people trying to give shade with umbrella's to each other.

It seems the faithful have taken the humility and charity of Pope Francis' pontificate with them as they say one last goodbye to the Holy Father.
