The protocol states that the cardinal dean must first convene the cardinals to decide on the funeral date of the deceased pontiff. The date chosen is Saturday, April 26.
They also confirmed that the transfer of the pontiff's body to St. Peter's would take place on Wednesday at 9 a.m., although they did not indicate at what time the basilica would be opened to the public to pray before Pope Francis' remains.
Some 60 cardinals participated in this meeting, most of them residing in Rome.
On the other hand, details about the pontiff's last hours are coming out. For example: he thanked his medical assistant for having supported him when he decided to ride in the Popemobile among the faithful.
The pope began to feel ill at around 5:30 in the morning. Two hours later he passed away.
