The Padrón family, an Argentine couple living in Rome, runs one of the best-known ice cream shops in Casa Santa Marta. Sebastián and Silvia are the owners of the Padrón ice cream shop.

Their history with the Pope has always gone hand in hand with ice cream.

The first time, it was on our own to bring ice cream to the Pope, to see if we could get close enough to him to try the ice cream. And yes, he tried it and well, then this chain of purchases began. People started coming, calling, ordering us to prepare ice cream for him, to prepare some dessert for him…
He says he is my friend. Every person I know who has spoken to him, he tells them, "Go eat ice cream from my friend, Sebastián!”

Sebastián confesses that Pope Francis usually orders lemon ice cream, dulce de leche, and mango. But their story goes beyond ice cream. In 2020, his wife, Silvia, received a call from the Pope's secretary. Pope Francis wanted to meet them. That private audience changed their lives, especially that of their son, Luca, who was 3 years old at the time.

After the blessing he gave to our children, having a son with some problems, we were lucky that the boy improved a lot. In fact, he started to walk after the Pope gave him his blessing.

48 hours after this encounter, little Luca began to walk alone, something he had not been able to do before.

After this event, Sebastián did not hesitate to inform the Pope's secretary so that Pope Francis would know of this great improvement of the little boy, whom the Padrón family holds dearly.
