Pope Francis was hospitalized for bronchitis, which he has been suffering from for days. In fact, these were the last images of him before being admitted to the Gemelli Polyclinic. Just before, he had held five meetings.
Hours later, the Vatican confirmed that the Pope has a respiratory infection and a slight fever, but that his condition was normal and that he would receive treatment.
The director of the Press Office also noted that the Pope was serene, in good spirits, and that he was able to read some newspapers.
The 88-year-old Pope had to cancel the commitments he had planned for the next few days, coinciding with the Jubilee of the Artists.
The Pope's health has been rather unstable this February. Although he has attended almost all of his engagements, he has not been able to read homilies and speeches due to breathing problems.
