There was a lot of expectation in the weekly audience due to the respiratory problems that Pope Francis has shown in recent days.
POPE FRANCIS
Dear brothers and sisters, good morning! In our Jubilee journey of catechesis on Jesus, who is our hope, today we dwell on the event of his birth in Bethlehem. Now may I ask the priest, the reader, to continue reading because I, with my bronchitis, cannot yet. I hope that next time I can.
Don Pierluigi Giroli took the floor from Pope Francis and read the catechesis. It focused on the example that God gave to humanity by coming into the world in such a humble way.
POPE FRANCIS
Jesus was born in a totally unprecedented way for a king. In fact, 'while they were in that place, the days of childbirth were fulfilled for her. She gave birth to her firstborn son, wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, for there was no room for them in the lodging.' The Son of God is not born in a royal palace, but in the backyard of a house, in the space where the animals are.
Despite his health condition, Pope Francis was able to read some of the greetings to the pilgrims in attendance and also greeted several of the faithful.
