Pope Francis is closely following the situation in the United States with mass deportations. That is why he has decided to write a letter to all the bishops of the country.
In a moment that he has described as “delicate”, the Pope pointed out that countries have the right to defend themselves and to keep citizens safe from people who have committed crimes and who intend to enter.
However, Pope Francis points out that he disagrees with any measure that identifies illegal immigrants with criminals. He said that an authentic state of law is verified in the dignified treatment given, above all, to the marginalized.
He insists that a policy that regulates migration in an orderly and legal manner must be promoted but that this must not be imposed with force. Regarding the United States deportation policy, the Pope asks to avoid assimilating illegal immigrants with criminals.
