At the Summit on Children's Rights, the Pope highlighted the problems for children around the world.

These problems ranged from hunger or wars, to some that go more unnoticed, such as the legal limbo in which many children are left in if they are not registered at birth. The Pope cited the case of refugee children such as the Rohingya people fleeing Myanmar.

POPE FRANCIS
We can think of the young Rohingya children, who often struggle to get registered, or the “undocumented” children at the border of the United States, those first victims of that exodus of despair and hope made by the thousands of people coming from the South towards the United States of America, and many others.

He recalled that in countries where there is a better quality of life, problems arise which, he said, should not be underestimated.

POPE FRANCIS
In fact, to a much greater extent than in the past, schools and health services have to deal with children already tested by many difficulties, with anxious or depressed youngsters, and adolescents drawn to forms of aggression or self-harm.

In the United States, 16% of minors are living in poverty, according to the organization Kids Count. In Europe, the situation in countries like Spain is more alarming. There, more than 27% of minors are in vulnerable situations, according to UNICEF.
