During his weekly audience, the Pope once again reflected on and called for an end to war. Pope Francis turned his attention to the current situation in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo.
POPE FRANCIS
I express my concern about the worsening security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. I urge all parties involved in the conflict to commit to a cessation of hostilities and to the protection of the civilian population in Goma and in the other areas affected by military operations.
The Pope also reflected on the importance of St. Joseph during the Virgin Mary's pregnancy. He described him as a character docile to the voice of the Lord who assumes the legal paternity of Jesus.
POPE FRANCIS
In his sleep Joseph hears these words: «Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her. She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins». Faced with this revelation, Joseph does not ask for further proof, he trusts God. Joseph trusts God, accepts God's dream about his life and that of his betrothed.
As is tradition, in the Paul VI Hall there were present several newlyweds. At the end of the catechesis, the Lord's Prayer was sung, the faithful received a blessing and some were even able to greet Pope Francis personally.
