The Pope has sent one of the Vatican's top officials to Syria. He is Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches.
The mission entrusted to him by Pope Francis is to bring his blessing to the Catholics of the country, as well as to convey to them his support in the process of rebuilding Syria. All this occurs almost two months after the fall of the Al-Assad regime last December.
During this trip, Gugerotti will meet with Syrian clergy and faithful, as well as with the patriarchs of various Orthodox and Armenian communities.
Cardinal Gugerotti was in Syria in February 2023. Pope Francis sent him to provide spiritual support to the victims of the earthquakes, which left thousands of victims in the country.
