Some 600 religious communication professionals from more than 60 countries have travelled to Rome to take part in a conference organized by the University of the Holy Cross in the framework of the Jubilee.

The aim is to share experiences and reflect on the Church's communication in today's world.

Before, it was more based on the institution and on what the institution has to communicate, and now it is more about what people tell me, what people need and expect from me. In that sense, the Church also seems to me to be evolving in the way it communicates. I think that this type of meeting also helps the Church's communicators to think about where we are going and how to make communication a reality in today's context.

Among the speakers was Archbishop Fisichella, the person in charge of organizing the Jubilee, who reflected on the communication challenges of today's world.

The novelty is to really seek the meaning of what we communicate and then make it touch people's lives. Then, it also touches personal experience, directly personal in every sense. And if it doesn't, the communication lacks something; it is theoretical and it is not effective.

Other talks that marked the first day of the conference were those by theologian Fabio Rosini and Sean Patrick-Lovett. The latter was a review of communication in an often-forgotten continent such as Africa.
