More than twenty people have died and more than 16,000 hectares of land devastated in California. Weeks after the fires started, Pope Francis continues to remember the inhabitants in Los Angeles.

And I want you to know that my heart goes out to the people of Los Angeles, who have suffered so much from the fires that have devastated entire neighborhoods and communities, and they are not finished.
Hundreds of thousands of people were initially placed under evacuation notices. The authorities are already reopening certain areas and some residents are returning to their homes, albeit under strict measures.
California remains on red alert. There is a forecast of more winds coming that could fuel further fires that they are trying to control or spark new outbreaks.
