Cardinal Christoph Schönborn is turning 80 and will therefore no longer be an elector if a conclave is called.
The Cardinal was one of the cardinals whom Pope Francis publicly thanked for their support during the Synod on the Family. At the Synod, the Pope called for increased efforts to prevent divorced people from feeling excluded from the Church.
CARD. CHRISTOPH SCHÖNBORN
For me, this document holds authentic novelties but not a rupture.
Schönborn was appointed Archbishop of Vienna by Pope John Paul II in 1995. In 1998, he made him a cardinal, which allowed him to participate in the elections of Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis. With his birthday, the number of cardinal electors changes to 138.
