The Sodalitium of Christian Life confirms its dissolution. It was the institution itself that made public the Pope's decision to suppress this apostolic society.
The statement clarifies that it was two members of the Sodalitium who leaked this information, and not Cardinal Gianfranco Ghirlanda, as was claimed in the media.
The Sodalitium has not been exempt from controversy in the last decade. In August, the Vatican expelled its founder, Luis Fernando Figari, who was accused of committing sexual abuse.
A few months later, ten members of the leadership were also removed for physical, spiritual, and administrative abuse. In addition, for the first time in history, a journalist was punished for abuse in the exercise of his profession as a Catholic.
All this is the result of a long investigation by the Vatican. It began when two journalists uncovered the abuses in a book.
The Pope then sent two members of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith to investigate the facts, which resulted with the decision to put an end to this lay institution in Peru.
