The Pope has confirmed that Raffaella Petrini, until now Vice-Governor of the Vatican City State, will be President of the Governorate in March.
This was another thing that came out during the interview that the Pope gave to Italian television, where the role of women in the Vatican Curia was also discussed.
POPE FRANCIS
The work of women in the Curia is something that has been introduced slowly and well understood. Now we have so many women (in positions of responsibility). For example, to elect bishops, there are three women on the commission who elect the new bishops. In the Governorate, the Vice-Governor, who will be governor in March, is a nun.
This will be the first time that a woman will hold the post of Governor of the Vatican City State.
The current president is the Spanish Cardinal Fernando Vérgez, who will turn 80 in the coming weeks.
