Rolando Álvarez breaks his silence with an interview with a Spanish media outlet. The bishop of Nicaragua has spoken for the first time since his exile in January 2024.

The prelate's statements were in a Spanish local newspaper. The Nicaraguan assures that he is well and that his priority is to be close to his priests, as many of them are also outside the country.

Publicly, he has been seen very little this year. Some Spanish dioceses published images of his pastoral visit to Spain.

He was also present, as he himself confirmed in the interview, at the opening Mass of the Jubilee on December 24, where he was seen crossing the Holy Door a few minutes after the Pope did.

Regarding the persecution in Nicaragua, Álvarez remains discreet and cautious in his words. When referring to this subject, he limits himself to reproducing the words of the Pope in the letter he sent to the Nicaraguan people. However, he predicts a 2025 of peace and hope, with the latter being capable of working miracles.
