Pope Francis has published his autobiography, which is unusual for a pope. Pope Benedict XVI did so before, although he wrote it when he was still a cardinal.
The book, entitled Hope and written with the Italian journalist Carlo Musso, took six years to come to light.
The Pope begins by recounting his life in Buenos Aires, how he was attracted to two girls in his youth, and when he discovered his priestly vocation at the age of 17.
But the Pope also addresses current issues. Regarding the war in the Middle East, Pope Francis points out that killing civilians “is also terrorism” and explains how he wanted to travel to Russia in his attempts to mediate peace in Ukraine but was told that “it was not the time”.
Regarding his health, Pope Francis admits that he has “never” thought about resigning, but he repeats something that he has said before: that if he should resign, it should be whenever God wants, but that the Pope is afraid of physical pain and that, if his resignation must happen, the resignation should not do too much harm.
