On Sunday, the pope did not overlook the drama unfolding in Los Angeles.

I am close to the residents of Los Angeles County, California, where devastating fires have broken out in recent days. I pray for all of you.
The previous day the pope sent a telegram to the archbishop of the region, Archbishop José Gomez, to also express his closeness. Gomez had left this message on social networks to ask for prayers and support.
The social networks were filled with images of the fire. Public figures also showed how their homes were after being completely razed to the ground.
