For Pope Francis, sports is important. He has expressed this in various public appearances, ranging from meetings with the world's biggest stars to small teams.

POPE FRANCIS
The Church is close to sports because it believes that the game and sporting activity are places of encounter between people, formation in values and fraternity. This is why sports are a trademark of the Church, especially in schools, oratories or youth centers.

Pope Francis is also a soccer fanatic. He is from Argentina and a fan of San Lorenzo de Almagro. For him, this sport goes beyond what happens in a match. It is also about sportsmanship, respect and solidarity.

POPE FRANCIS
Soccer is a team game, and it cannot be enjoyed alone. And if soccer is experienced in this way together, it can do a lot of good for the mind and the heart in a society that exasperates subjectivism, that is, the centrality of the self, almost as an absolute principle. Soccer is a team game, and this is good for all of us. Many define football as the most beautiful game in the world. I think so too.

All these teachings on sports are now in a book that the Pope has already been able to hold in his hands.

In the 176 pages, there are the Pope's personal reflections and speeches throughout his pontificate on sports, with a simple and direct tone.

“Beyond the Limits: Sport According to Pope Francis” contains his teachings on sports, which is a beautiful, transversal topic that reaches all people. That is the idea and even more so with the Jubilee at our doors starting on December 24.

In the 11 chapters, Pope Francis relates sports to issues such as education, how it can be a message for peace, or help for building society. Published by Romana Editorial, the prologue of the book is written by Carlo Ancelotti, coach of Real Madrid.
