On September 2, Pope Francis’ longest trip of his entire pontificate began. He flew to Asia and Oceania. While there for 12 days, he visited places where Christianity is more marginalized and where the last papal visit was decades ago.
The primary message of the trip was this.
In Indonesia, the country with the most Muslims in the world, the pope and the great imam launched a message of unity against religious fundamentalism.
A few weeks later, Pope Francis would embark on a plane again, but this time to visit countries closer to home: Belgium and Luxembourg.
On these trips, during his meetings with the press, the pontiff once again expressed his firm opposition to abortion.
FRANCISCO
You kill a human being. And the doctors who lend themselves to this are – allow me the word – they are hit men. They are hit men. And that cannot be debated. One kills a human life.
The intense September travel agenda did not seem to take a toll on the 87-year-old pontiff. In one month, he visited no less than 6 countries.
